Non-profit research foundation · Pakistan

Advancing health through science that reaches everyone.

A non-profit research foundation advancing molecular biology, biotechnology, diagnostics and public health — building laboratory capacity, training researchers, and widening access to affordable diagnostic care in Pakistan and internationally.

Advancing Health

Translational and clinical research directed at real improvements in healthcare outcomes.

Empowering Researchers

Fellowships, mentorship and laboratory training that build lasting scientific capacity.

Driving Biomedical Innovation

Biotechnological products, biomaterials and diagnostic systems built to be affordable.

Who we are

A research foundation built around access, not just discovery.

The Center for Health Innovation and Biotechnology is a non-profit research foundation working across molecular biology, biotechnology, diagnostics and public health. We undertake laboratory, translational and clinical research, and we build the facilities and skills needed to sustain it.

What shapes our work is the second half of the problem. A diagnostic that exists but cannot be afforded has not solved anything. So affordability and accessibility are treated as design constraints on the science itself, alongside rigour — and every finding is published and shared on a non-profit basis.

Our foundation

Three founding objectives

These are the objectives the Center was established to pursue, quoted in full from our foundation document.

01

Scientific Research

To promote and undertake scientific research in the fields of molecular biology, biotechnology, diagnostics, and public health, including translational and clinical research, for the advancement of knowledge and improvement of healthcare outcomes in the public interest, subject to the approval of the competent authority.

02

Laboratories & Products

To establish, operate, and maintain research laboratories and facilities, and to develop, test, and validate biotechnological products, biomaterials, and diagnostic systems, with a focus on innovation, affordability, and accessibility, subject to the approval of the competent authority.

03

Collaboration & Dissemination

To collaborate and engage with academic institutions, healthcare providers, and research organisations, both within Pakistan and internationally, and to disseminate research findings in accordance with applicable ethical standards and regulatory requirements, on a non-profit basis.

Research focus

Where our laboratories concentrate

Four fields named in our founding mandate, pursued from fundamental science through to validated, deployable tools.

Molecular Biology

Gene expression, molecular markers and the mechanisms underlying disease.

Biotechnology

Biomaterials, assay platforms and diagnostic systems designed for low-resource settings.

Diagnostics

Developing, testing and validating diagnostic methods against real clinical need.

Public Health

Population-level research on disease burden, prevention and access to care.
Access & equity

Science that arrives where it is needed

Diagnostic capacity in Pakistan is unevenly distributed. Laboratories cluster in major cities; cost and distance keep testing out of reach for many of the people who would benefit most from it.

Two parts of our work address that directly. Our subsidised services reduce the cost of testing for patients referred through partner clinics and community programmes. Our outreach activities take screening and health education into communities rather than waiting for them to travel.

Subsidised Testing

Reduced-cost diagnostics for patients referred through partner clinics and outreach programmes.

Community Programmes

Screening camps, health education and follow-up delivered in underserved communities.

Ethical Standards

Research and testing conducted under applicable ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Public Sector Support

Working alongside public health systems rather than in parallel with them.

All news & events

No announcements published yet

News, events, workshops and seminars will be posted here as the Center's programmes begin. To be notified when they do, get in touch and we will add you to our mailing list.

Partners

Collaboration is written into our mandate

Our third founding objective commits us to working with academic institutions, healthcare providers and research organisations, both within Pakistan and internationally.

Our partner institutions will be listed here

We are finalising the details of our institutional collaborations. Rather than list organisations before those arrangements are confirmed, this page will be published once they are. If your institution would like to collaborate, we would be glad to hear from you.

Get involved

There is more than one way to be part of this

Whether you are a researcher looking for a laboratory, a student seeking a first placement, an institution exploring collaboration, or someone who simply wants to support the work — there is a route in.
